Default what do you paint your poppers with?

I am making some poppers and wanted to know what you paint the popper with. I used permanent marker and paint clear finger nail polish over it. Just wanted your thoughts.

Most poppers I tie are deer hair but when I use foam I paint them with model paints and a clear coat.

Hi Tammy,

Go to your local hobby shop and buy paints made for model airplanes. They will have everything you need and in small quantities. If you make a lot of poppers then an air brush does a super job.

I've used a few things. I've used paint markers, which I didn't care for the coverage...but thats a personal vanity thing. I like sharpies, depending on what the popper is made of. I will have to try model paint, seems like a good idea. My wife is starting to wonder about me and my requests for fingernail polish!

I use the paint markers with clear nail polish. The one thing I have found is you need to do two coats with the markers.

I usually cut my poppers out of colored foam flip-flops and get the color I want. I sometimes spritz them with black enamel thru a piece of net fabric to give a scale effect. I use sharpies or water proof markers for decorations like gills and such. I generally use a small cheap artists brush to coat them with clear epoxy or sometimes just use Sally Hansen's Hard-as-nails. The epoxy coated flies are really tough.
