I actually caught 100 fish today with my flyrod! 98 chubs, 1 sunfish, and 1 brown trout.
95 of the chubs were below 4". The sunfish was 3" and the brownie was the biggest by far....... 8"!
We still have super shallow water here, and the state won't restock for another 4 weeks. The "bait boys" killed 98% of the trout and the hot shallow water killed another 1%. I wade miles and try for the remaining 1% of the trout that are still there. Really, it's just being in nature and casting my light rod with my hometied flies. In the couple miles I waded, I think I saw another small trout, but it might have been a sucker.
I still had a great time today, but I really wish I had a 0 wt! With a 0wt the 3" minnows would put up a nice fight! LOL
For fishing, this is what's available. If not the trout streams, I would have to try for sickly catfish and dying carp in the polluted Susquehanna.
My choice was to walk way offroad in the beautiful, 6" deep, tiny creek and use tiny flies to catch tiny fish!
McFly....... these fish look like the little guys you catch when the water is almost dried up!
I'm tying a lot of saltwater streamers for October to Jan when the stripers migrate down the Jersey coast. That is a long way off and I still like to flyfish once in a while.
Flyfishing is what I do, so I make the best of it.
These are the two biggest today:
