Default Setting the drag

I'm familiar with spinning and baitcaster reels but very new to fly fishing.
How do you guys do it ? Specially when targeting large bass and strippers.

Default Re: Setting the drag

Based on the size of your tippet make a general setting before you go out. Once you hook into a fish you can make adjustments from there. Lots of people will tell you not to touch the drag when fighting the fish because in the heat of the moment its easy to turn the drag dial in the opposite way that you want it to go, however, somtimes setting the drag during a fight is the difference between landing and losing a fish. Just try and keep you wits about you when doing this and know your setup to avoid a silly mistake.

Once your comfortable with your setup and know the limitations of your tippet you can also palm the reel. Again there are some that say not to do this but with practice it can be really effective.
