Looking like spring

Well, it looks like spring is almost upon us. I know that a lot of you live in areas that are not really hard hit by the winter but man, we got it good this year. What have you spent the non-fishing time doing? For those of you who tie, have you got your boxes replenished?

I have been tying new bugs for me. I have been really enjoying tying hairwing fly's this season. My favorite has been a pattern I picked up in a FF mag called a Perch Fry.

I also have been enjoying creating new bugs. Most of them don't turn out but occasionally I will get one right.

Also put together a new fly tying desk and found a great deal on bulbs that are the same as the DAYLITE and OTT type lights.

Been using some of those new big barrel tools by Dr. Slick too. They are great for those of us with more thumbs then fingers.

Anyway, chime in..............

Mostly killing gophers. I have a lot of them.
Any idea what fly would work well tied with gopher fur? I could make a lot of money at $10 a pelt.

You could make thin zonker strips out of the pelt..

What is the fur like on them? Could you do a dubbing blend with them that would look good on a fly?

gopher hide and seek

Hey.
Zonker might work. Not sure what it would do if I put it in a blender for dubbing. I may just have to try one now that you put actual possibilities on the table.
Let's see....
Hand tanned, specially selected for fly tieing, finest grade, free-range gopher pelts..... sounds professional.

It would be "Free Range" and yes it sounds mighty tempting.
