Default Overnight on the South Fork of Snake River

Went with Heise Outfitters (HEISE EXPEDITIONS PREMIER FLY FISHING ON THE SOUTH FORK OF THE SNAKE RIVER) on July 22 - 23. Two days fishing and an overnight at their camp on the river. Great guides, food, accommodations and fishing. PMD hatch from noon to 4PM each day had bugs pouring out of the riffles and the fish where rising and the fishing was all surface action. Size 16 pink soft hackles, emergers and adults all worked at various times. Most fish were in the 14 to 17" size range. Will try to post some pictures later.

Heck I probably walked right past you at the launch, or atleast floated past you on the river. We floated Friday, and had a great time fishing the riffles too. The canyon is gorgeous huh!

gbanker: Glad to hear you had a good trip! Hard to beat the South Fork for great scenery and some fantastic fishing this time of year. I haven't done an overnighter yet, but it is on my list. Looking forward to seeing your photos.

Gb, I believe my wife and I met and had a Buffalo Philly sandwich with you last Friday night @ the South Fork Lodge? You were heading home the next morning from I.F......Ringin' any bells yet?

If this isn't the same person I'm really going to be embarrassed.

Fysh: So the SF Lodge is now serving to the public? Last year I was up there they weren't, or at least that was the impression I got when we were at the Fly Shop.

Yes they are. There are times when they have big groups coming in and they will close down to the public, infact I think I saw a notice on the door the other night that they would be doing it again sometime this week. As much as I like the place, I think the Saddle sore has better food, and much cheaper too!! If you want a pretty good pizza check out the Heise resort.

That canyon was gorgeous even when the river was muddy in June. Saw a lot of fish jumping out of the water. You folks live in a pretty spot.

Glad to meet you George.
Too bad we didn't realize it then, we could have made up some big totally unbelievable story.

I'll remember this as a good river to learn to paddle a raft. I fished it recently with Blackbugger and though my results were mixed, the scenery was awesome at the very least. Perhaps weather factored in here, perhaps my skills regressed but I will try again.
I feel really sad that a good friend of mine just had to relocate from his home overlooking this river to find work. He was happy here and is in the process of selling his home.
Overall a beauty of a river to float, fish and to see.
