Default Arizona Fly Fishing

I will be heading out to Phoenix in a few weeks to visit some family and would like to get out and do some fishing. Are there any trout streams that are somewhat close to the Phoenix area? I have never been so I don't know what's close and what's not close.

Thanks,
Jeff

depends on what you consider close. the white mountians are considered close. A lot of people are hitting the salt river right now as G&F stock it. There is Lake pleasant that has some big bass.

Default I 2nd White Mountains around Greer or Lees Ferry

The White Mountains around Greer, AZ would be my first choice in terms of fishing and distance. It is much like fishing smaller streams in the Rockies. However if you are going to visit the Grand Canyon, you might want to fish the Colorado river around Lees Ferry. I took my family (wife and son) for a day of drift fishing from a jet drive boat with a guide. The fishing was okay. I caught 4 decent Rainbows, and the fly shop people really seemed to think that I had done well. The water was cold, clear and deep. The aspect that made the fishing trip worth it was the scenery. Frankly, it was more impressive than the Grand Canyon.
