I've been doing it for a couple of years now, however it's only occasional when I need to concoct something new or to stock up my dry fly boxes.

I started tying before I started flyfishing! I know its wierd but I would get hooks and wrap feathers around it with sewing thread all while holding this in my hands. Then a I started flyfishing and got a real vise and equiptment so its been a while cant remember how longb though.

This is so far off topic. Please forgive me because I have to post after seeing the title a number of times. Every time I see "youth" I think of the movie "My cousin Vinny" were he's talking about his young clients in court and says "deez yutes", and the judge says, "yutes", lol

I started tying Before I turned 12 I would take hair from my dog and horses and tie them onto a hook. Then when I turned 12 I got a real kit. I can't remember how much later but after I tied some flies I started fly fishing.

Flyfisher117 is amazing at tying flies I've been tying longer, but he practices and practices, where I just practice. I still have him beat in the Elk Hair Caddis though

Does 24 count as youth? I sure hope so.

If so, I tie. If not, I'm an old codger and I still tie.
