Default Re: Best Fish

Have had many bests over the years and most of the most memorable ones ere on the fly with one exception. When I was younger and worked at the point a friend asked if I would be his fisherman for the day on his tuna boat which of course I gladly accepted , how could I turn down a free trip ?
The day started out with no one leaving the dock as 8 to 10s were hitting right outside the inlet. Captain asked the three of us if we were game to chance it and said once we were outside he was confident it would lay down. So out we go to a place aptly named NoMans land between Block Island , the Vineyard and Montauk! Worst ride of my life going vertical on more than one occasion while hanging on for dear life ! But as the Cap said once outside it laid down and we reached the grounds an hour after sunrise . There were about 30 boats already out there and the chim was flowing freely in all directions . By midmorning I was hooked up to a Giant Bluefin which in less than an hour was alongside. During the fight the CB was going a mile a minute with chatter so I knew what the plan was . Several minutes after a tail rope was on the monster a Japanese Buy Boat pulled up and the big tuna was hoisted on board . Weight was taken cash was exchanged and I watched the biggest fish of my life sail east. Later when the captain gave me a roll of cash that I never expected(they made out ridiculously well) I found out the big Bluefin had weighed in at 888 lbs!!
The day was not over and a boat had beeh on the radii all morning having hooked a huge and unexpected Marlin on 50 lb class tackle . We found out at the dock it weighed in at 950 lbs . And before we headed in there was the biggest blitz I have ever seen covering miles of water with every type of fish mixed in the fray and I even ended the day catching a hundred pound plus Yelliwfin. Quite a memorable day!!

It had to have been a 4.5 lb smallie I caught in Door County, WI. It fought like crazy, even though I was using spinning gear. It was just amazing

There are more of members best here; Your biggest fish on a fly?

I'm still trying to beat this one, maybe the next cast huh?

For a sense of scale; I am 6' 5" tall and weigh 228 pounds. I didn't have to hold it toward the camera to make it appear large. We will never be sure of the weight because there seems to be some contention as to whether the scale was certified. based on the scale and other fish I've caught it is safe to say it was 43 pounds.

I thought this kind of story was only in a story book. I'd love to have even only 1/2 of that experience.
