Renowned fly fishing guide April Vokey will address the Olympic Fly Fishers at their Oct. 9 meeting in Edmonds, WA.

The Olympic Fly Fishers of Edmonds invites the public to join in welcoming April Vokey; renowned fly fishing guide, fly tier, Federation of Fly Fishers Certified casting instructor, and writer, speaking at the club’s October meeting.

Everyone is invited – men, women, and especially young people interested in the sport of fly fishing.

Join club members at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at their monthly meeting at the South County Senior Center; 220 Railroad Ave; Edmonds, for the opportunity to hear Ms. Vokey speak about her experiences as a fishing guide, instructor, fly tier, and conservationist in her home waters of Northern British Columbia, as well as other locations around the world.

There is a charge of $15/person for dinner. R.S.V.P. for dinner reservations to the contact listed below, but there is no charge to come hear the speaker without dinner.

As a young woman in a traditionally male dominated profession, Vokey brings a unique perspective to the art and sport of fly fishing.  Her successful Fly Gal Ventures travel and guide services offers both co-ed and individual anglers a memorable experience, tailored to provide adventure in remote wilderness locations. She is very passionate about the environment and conservation as well as Spey casting to wild steelhead and tying steelhead/salmon flies.  It is her mission to introduce aspiring anglers to the sport and encourage their success.

April is a Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructor, a fly-fishing columnist and a member of the NW Outdoor Writers Association with articles regularly found in many local and international publications. She sits on the board of directors for the Steelhead Society of British Columbia and the British Columbia Federation of Fly Fishers and is the founder and director of the popular fundraiser, Flies for Fins In 2011, she joined the Patagonia team where she assists in the design and direction of ladies’ fishing apparel.

Since their beginnings in the early 1960s, the Olympic Fly Fishers of Edmonds has held as fundamental the education, conservation, and camaraderie associated with protecting our world’s natural gifts through the mutual enjoyment of fly fishing and their combined efforts to reach out, teach, and support worthy environmental projects and organizations with financial grants as well as member volunteer time and effort support those projects.
