View Full Version : Splittail - soft hackle serching pattern...

04-01-2008, 08:19 AM

* Hook: standard nymph hook size 14 and up or size 10-6 streamer hook for larger forms.
* Weight: lead free wire .015 and copper wire wrap over body.
* Thread: 6/0
* Tail : wood duck flank
* Body: dubbing blend - hare's ear mixed with red fox squirrel.
* Hackle: partridge

This wet fly can be stripped, nymphed, swung in currents and I've even used it juiced up as a dry/emerger during our larger mayfly hatches.

Using two with a few feet of line in between is a deadly tactic....They are easy to cast - even roll cast.

A good link with a SBS.....Double Soft-Hackle (http://www.invictaflies.us/Nymphs/Double%20Soft%20Hackle/double_soft_hackle.htm)

A good friend from PA brought this pattern up with him along with the Delaware Flimp.

There you have it Greenwood....:)
