Very nice tie, Tob1. When you ay split thred, do you mean parting half the fibre from the other half and placing materials in between, based on the same princible as a dubbing loop???

Thank you Steelhead Junkie
It is like a dubbing loop. I use serafil thread which have 2 cordels.
I twist the thread anti clockwise between my thumb and index finger.
The I place my scissor between the splittet thread and place the loop on my finger. Then I place the materials inn the loop and turn my bobbin clockwise to lock the materials.
You can also do this with normal thread that will flatten. Splitt the thread with a needle.

btw. It is also very nice to add dubbing on the loop. Just add wax to the open cordells and touch dubb. Then twist the bobbin around and the dubbing is applied to the thread.

Some picture with the serafil thread.

Traitor Cream Midge Parachute - Size 24

The body is twisted antron (I also use UNI-stretch for the body) I call this style a "traitor" because, a size 22 BWO Traitor, that I tied caught many more fish for my fishing buddy, on our last CO trip than for me, hence the name.

Hi Trygve,

I see that some of the pictures that you had posted earlier were lost with the move to the new gallery. Could you upload those photos again and I will put them back into your post. You can add them to this thread or put them in the Gallery and I will get them there.

If it is too much work I understand that.

The Midge Cluster is not my pattern. Staffan Lindstrøm is the originator for this pattern in his book "Bare ett kast til" ( Only one more cast ). Staffan has made a lot of patterns with the focus for simplicity and also he is a very god flyfisher.

Testing a new gadget. A Raynox DCR-250 macro converision lens (USD 50). The lens is like a filter that you snap on in the fron to your ordinary telelens. I have tried it out with my telezoom (70-300mm) that have a minimum focus distance at 1.5 meter. With the snap on lens the distance with 300mm is about 20 cm from the objective.
The picture.
Midge - hook size 18 - benecchi chenille - goose biot and black hackle.
The objective setting 100mm and aperture 22. At 200mm on the zoom lens the fly cover the hole photo frame.

Hello Trygve :)

The #30 is wonderful fine fly tying. How large a fish have you caught on your Midge flies? I have heard stories of big fish on tiny flies but seldom fish under 20 - 22 in my life. I am tying #4 flies that I owe in a swap today :D

Nice work,

Ard

tob1
04-05-2012, 10:56 PM
Just tying them for fun. Never fish with them since they are to small to handle in my fishing. I think I will never get them on the tippet outside and I like to get the fish up very fast for my catch and release. Practical I rare use smaller tippet than 5X.
