UPDATE: for those who may be in the same boat as me.
After hours of research, seems like a popular option for budget oriented trip would be Seascape Inn or Swain's Cay Lodge. Seems to tick most of the checkboxes for me with main focus on the bonefish.
General suggestions as to the best time of the year....is that you should go when you can as bad weather can happen any time and so can the good weather.
I'm tempted to go in mid September but late October might be better due to less rain, though most people seem to prefer to travel during the Spring.
Original Post:
Which island in Bahamas should one look into for a solo angler traveling from New York for as much diy wadable beach for mostly a mixed bag of species such as cuda, needlenose, snappers, and a shot at a bonefish. I don't really know what I'm doing for bones so there needs to be a guide nearby preferably to book for a day.
Most of the islands need a hopper plane which im ok with if I end up staying there for most of the time.
Diy lodges are cool but seem to mostly focus on the bonefish, and rightfully so, however besides bonefish, I would like to fish on my own for a mixed bag to keep my self happy with a fly rod and a light spinning rod.
Saw some of the videos on YouTube of Spanish Cay which looks perfect, so I'm looking into that. Can anyone recommend which island and perhaps a hotel/resort I can look into that will provide a lot of diy water to fish?
Acklins seems like a great option although on a pricier side but with endless flats. Long Island seems to be recommended as well. As is Abacos.
I would love to stay somewhere on the water where I don't need a rental and wake up and fish at anytime and have wadable flats out the door or a shortwalk to keep my self busy for days.
Quite and secluded is a plus but not too secluded to hire a guide and maybe do something else while I'm there such as snorkeling.
I would love to go mid September but I understand it's hurricane season. I'm ok with a chance of downpour for an hour or two. But read somewhere it might be for days. November is prime season, but I have other trips planned and would prefer to go in September. Is going mid September asking for a rainy weather everyday?
I will be brining a spinning rod and a 9wt fly rod.
Main points:
-secluded and quite
-a guide service nearby or within reasonable traveling means.
-various activities to book such as snorkeling also within reasonable travel means.
-a hut or cottage or hotel on the water
-all inclusive is a plus, otherwise I can get groceries or eat at the restaurants.
-prefer with no rental car, but will get one if needed for better diy water coverage
-tropical views are a plus (I know it's Bahamas, but some resorts/hotels are more "tropical" with better views. I want that tropical setting.
-looking to stay from 5 days to 7.
Amy advice on the islands or resorts to stay at is greatly appreciated. And if mid September really is a bad time to go and I should shoot for end of October please let me know your thoughts.
Thank you
Roman
