    Default Cool little project

So I'm not claiming to be a rod smith by any means... but I wanted to share a quick little project I did. I bought an old beat up, 3 pc. Bamboo rod from a yard sale... paid 5$. The butt section was cracked, and the varnish, cork, and reel seat were pretty rough.

So I took the mid, and tip section, and sanded the rough varnish off. I put 3 new coats of spar varnish on. Bought a new reel seat, and cork handle. Made a 6' two piece rod out of the mid and tip. It actually casts a 3 wt. GOLD line very nice.

Not a superfine, by any means, but it turned out nice, and was kinda fun. I think it will be a great tiny Brook Trout Stream Stalker...

Did you do the cork? It looks new. That is a wonderful looking rod, and you did a great job!

And for $5.00, what more could you ask for?

    Very smart,

There used to be a guy on eBay who did this with old Heddon Black Beauties and Grangers etc. All you need to do to make it pro quality is learn how to wind new silks so you can change up the guides on the old mid which becomes the new butt. If you tossed a nice stripping guide on there pre varnish you would be even better.

As it is you have a nice rod,

Great job! I have a little 6 1/2' cane I love for small streams. It seems to me I'm more accurate close in with a shorter rod. It should be a dart thrower!
