Paging the local Lee's Ferry expert...

I have decided rather than go back to the San Juan (where I always end up it seems) in October, I'd try some new water. I'm going to fish the Colorado at Lee's Ferry instead. I would sure appreciate any words of wisdom those of you who've fished there could share with me.

First thing I'm interested in is what patterns to tie between now and then. My understanding is scuds in the 14-16 size, orange and pink. Any other colors, sizes? Midges. I'm used to fishing 24s and 26s. 20s and 22s seems to be the right size for the Colorado. Is that right? Any other bugs? Irresistibles (or Unbelievables)? Hoppers? Ants? Wooly buggers or leeches?

I'm also very curious about boating there. I'm thinking of being guided the first day, but renting a boat on subsequent days. Any tips?

I always get excited contemplating a trip to the San Juan. But I'm REALLY getting excited about this trip. I guess it's the prospect of new water (and smaller crowds) that has me excited more than anything.

I have a friend in Dallas that fished Lee's Ferry back in the spring. He filed this report on another board, but I don't think Steve will mind me linking it to you. I'm not sure he's answered all your questions, however, I'm sure he would be happy to share any additional information. Right now, he's working some projects in Florida and is traveling a lot. I'm going to give you this link, and if I can help in any way to coordinate information transfer between the two of you , or to be able to help you get in touch with him, let me know.

His name is Phil, he's an avid coldwater fisherman and loves trout.

You want to talk to SJDrifli, he lives very close to the river and fishes it all the time. He is going by another handle and I cant think of it.

Mike, I think he wants to fish Lee's Ferry NOT the Juan, but if you do decide to come up and fish the Juan, look me up. Google up Lee's Ferry and you will get lots of listings for guides on the river that might be able to hook you up. Paul

Thanks, everyone.

I researched Lee's Ferry as much as I could on-line and then called Lee's Ferry Anglers for advice. They were most helpful and very free with advice.

I always knew I could go that route, but I think it's highly informative to hear from ones who have fished a certain water, since they often share the insights, tips, whatever that helped them be successful. Often times, it's not the same things you hear from locals or those who fish the waters day in and day out. That's why I posted the question here.

In any event, I can hardly wait!!!
