  1. Spring?

Is Spring here? The Crappie say yes. Crappie on the lake I live on move into the shallows next to the bank to spawn in early spring. Iíve been recently picking off some with Balanced jigs in 2-4 feet of water. From reading the Crappie boards here in Texas, this lake Iím on is precocious. Most everywhere else the Crappie are still down deep.

My dad wants to do a road trip soon to find Spring. My teenage son is starting a school break soon and dad wants me and my son Matthew to join ...

This is a reprint from a forum thread, the post is just too detailed to let it disappear when that thread is forgotten.

  4. On the Boat, Part II

Iím enjoying these boat excursions lately with my buddy Rick. Iím almost always fishing out of a kayak in the saltwater, so fishing from a 22í center console is a nice change of pace.

Weíve had a week, a few days of cold for us weather. Nights dipped into the 20ís, 24 briefly was the bottom at my house and there were a couple of days where the temperature never cracked 40 sandwiched between a couple that hovered around the mid forties.

All that unusual cold and the ...

  5. Hybrid Vigor

    Or otherwise known as heterosis.

    heterosis
    [het-uh-roh-sis]
the increase in growth, size, fecundity, function, yield, or other characters in hybrids over those of the parents.

Normally, this term is applied to organisms, plants and animals that have some desired or superior qualities over their parents. Corn that has higher yields, better drought tolerance or livestock with better disease resistance, things like that.

    I want to stretch ...
