Living on A Lake

Posted Today at 04:49 AM by karstopo

Living on a lake is not a bad thing. I've got to say I've really enjoyed fishing at the drop of a hat, whenever there's free time and the mood strikes me. Like yesterday afternoon. The lake looked fishy. An Anhinga was out there fishing begging me to join him. So was the Osprey overhead. Why should they have all the fun? All it takes is a charged car battery, flat bottom, a troll motor, a couple of fly rods and a few flies and I'm fishing in a matter of seconds.

The particular lake...

Fish Charges Downriver, Should I Break It Off?

Posted 10-16-2017 at 10:43 PM by Ard

Another thread reply that got pretty in depth and I thought worth saving here

My streamer rigs are stepped down in tolerance from a 50 pound double loop at the tip of the fly line to the 12 pound tippet. Various connections are 25 or 35 pound so if a fish breaks off it is the tippet that goes. That heavy braided loop at the tip of my lines is more about protecting my welded loop line than the break strength. All of my backings are 30 pound strength and I make sure I have good knots...

Blind Casting

Posted 10-16-2017 at 06:18 AM by karstopo

I hear and read about this term a lot, at least on many of my home waters of Texas interest group's sites. Blind Casting, "were you sight fishing or blind casting?" is usually how the question goes after an outing when people discuss the details of the trip. Here in coastal Texas, many will only fly fish the inshore and nearshore salt and brackish waters if the conditions merit casting to sighted fish, period, end of story. Anything that deviates from that is labeled "blind casting"...

Dedicated Streamer Rods?

Posted 10-14-2017 at 09:41 PM by Ard

This is another copy from a post I made to a thread. The topic was in regard to buying a new streamer rod. I've been sorta quiet for almost a year when it comes to offering an opinion but I started writing and just kinda kept at it for a while. If you didn't stumble across this on the forums maybe you'll find it interesting, or maybe not

Comments welcomed of course............here's what I said.

Although I've seen several threads dealing with this same question over...

Another Year winding down;

Although this may go down as the single worst fishing season I've experienced since I was just a boy using a hand line in Pennsylvania's West Branch of the Susquehanna River there's always reason for hope.

Yesterday I had planned to take my boat and drive 80 miles to launch into a river I haven't fished for 4 years. Fall fishing in this particular river is generally quite good but as I started rolling out the drive I had second thoughts. Generally good carries with it a certain cavet,...
