When thinking of cold water fishing, many don't often think of Walleye. Personally, I've never targeted Walleye on the fly rod before because there is so much great brown, brook and rainbow trout as well as smallmouth bass fishing within 20 minutes of where I live.

However, a couple of weeks ago I was in Northern Alberta, and headed over to the Athabasca River. Not a river that I'd want to wade, at least where I was fishing! And it is a "COLD" river! It begins in the mountains from glacier ice and flows into central northern Alberta, and has a number of other rivers that flow into it.. so it picks up a LOT of speed.

Anyhow, I had a blast catching Pike and Walleye on the fly rod!
