I'd be hard pressed to leave something like that too.

    Beautiful photos and stories guys!

Quick survey: What size rods are you guys using on these small streams.
What do you recommend for a small stream rod of around ~$300?
    Thanks.

I really like my cabelas TQR 2 weight. Its a great rod for the price.

I'm sure you can find a better fly rod at your local fly shop, and its always nice to support them.

Thank you, Troutwhisperer. I'm trying to decide on the size and weight of the next rod to get. I fish with my 9' 5wt all the time, but often I thought a lighter weight rod and line would more appropriate because i'm pretty sure I'm spooking a lot of trout plopping that 5 weight everywhere.
Which size and weight would be most effective for dry fly and small streams? Hoping to learn from the forum's members' vast experience.
    Thanks.

I have a 2wt and a 4wt, both from Allen Fly Fishing. The 2wt is the 7'3" ATS which is my current preferred small stream rod, but when i know I have a bit of room and know I'll be fishing dries, I like the 4wt. While it throws a 4wt line best, it's very light so it's still fun with the little fish. My next small stream rod (and likely the one following me to Sweden next year) will be a 7'6" Allen Xa 3wt.

Here's why I need to get a lighter weight rod:
I was fishing at one of the most beautiful meadow last weekend and all I did was spooked the fish with my #5 wt rod.

The scenery was so beautiful I hung out just to watch the fish rising and ignoring my casts

    Any advice is appreciated! Thanks.

    Beautiful scenery
And now then ,since I been fishing small streams all my life best advice is that gear(rod,line,reel...and stuff) doesnt catch the trout, fisherman does

I fish with 9' 5wt rod all the time too and yes sometimes clumsy cast can spook the fish but there is cheaper cure for that than buying new rod ,just make leader longer and if you still spooking them make it more longer

Have you tried a longer leader and lighter tippet? A lighter rod might be fun, but not necessary. Approached and presentation! Go to a 12' leader and if the fish still spook, tie on a couple more feet of lighter tippet...

Ah! Longer leader and tippet! I'm still learning as you can see. I will try that, but I still think buying a new rod is more fun and exciting though
    I think I still need a # 2 or #3 weight don't you? I want more gear!
The meadow above is probably the most beautiful place on earth!
