I fish buggers in sz 2 thru sz12. Size 6 seems to get the most takes.
Colors are the whole spectrum. White-black.
Mostly green for me with a barred olive tail. Very drab.
Since bait fish grow over the season, start small early, then grow your bugger to match.
Dennis's brown bugger would match the fingerlings here now in a smaller sz.
Give pink, and powder blue a try too.
Like Davo said, hard to go wrong.

Get creative if you tie your own flies. There are so many different combinations that you can use. There are so many different types of chenille options. There are so many different marabou options.

Here is a bugger that I tie for the Lower Yuba River in California.

It uses Glo-Brite Chenille and Spirit River Mottlebou.
