On the 31st and 1st a week or so ago, I met Larry Mcnerney at his home in southern Wyoming to deliver a painting and do some fishing. We had talked about getting together and his painting had taken a year to complete so I was itching to culminate the plan and get into some larger fish than what we have here in SC. Day one was a float with Larry and Day two was spent with Ryan from "north platte lodge" guide services.

Some my think that Wyoming has some unspectacular vistas but growing up there, I've got a fond spot in my heart for this country.

The river was running at 5k cfs, down from 7500 cfs the week before and still considered high. visibility was 4 - 5 feet. We setup with a three fly carolina rig. purple/red worms and size 20 pmd and RS2 nymphs....worm next to the weights and nymphs floating above at 13 - 14" tippet intervals (4x tippet was fine)

Putting in with Larry (day one) Nathaniel took the back seat...

We fished about 12 miles with Larry and caught several good sized rainbow/cutbow.

it was an excellent day for revamping my soul...

The next day we started earlier with the Guide service and Larry Floated in his pontoon. Larry went the same 12 as the day before and we went 30 miles with Ryan. This time, I told Ryan the main goal was to get Nathaniel hooked into big picture fish and my son took the front of the boat.

Ryan is one of the outfit’s top guides with 20+ years experience on the north platte, a BA in entomology and another in Marine biology. He was a plethora of information and fed us details constantly while keeping the boat lined up, giving direct instruction and help....for 9 hours of constant fishing. We landed 38 fish over 16", 4 trophies over 20" with 3 more LDR (those size 20 nymphs were challenging). several other smaller trout that I didn't keep track of were boated as well.

We also did some experimental hopper fishing...but nothing much came from it

So now for the porn...

Nathaniel's first 20/20 - this male cutbow was 22"

My first 20/20 - an nice female

man o man....the fat fish could test our drag systems...

Later in the afternoon, leaches were found in the stomach pump mush and were a hit with the fish. The rigs went to worm/leach/rs2

Under the immaculate care of Ryan and Larry, everything was released successfully.

Thanks to "North Platte Lodge", "the Reef fly shop" and Ryan Hemkens our guide for a stellar adventure.

most of all, thanks to our fearless leader and forum demigod Larry McNerney for the opportunity to show my son a fishing trip he will never forget!

I completely agree with you on this statement. A lot of folks give certain parts of Wyoming a bad rap but as a Wyoming native I see its unique beauty.

Awesome report futuramille. Larry was telling us about it last weekend on our trip. It sounds and looks like it was a trip of epic proportions, congrats!

He really was Mark as was I because of the whole trip, getting that photo of him with a fish like that was my main goal. I wish I could post vids here because most of the camera work was on video.
