Thread: Do you Woolly Bugger?

    ^^ that's quite a selection.

Yeah, I use them fairly often. They're pretty much my standard exploratory streamer. I agree about the rainbows chasing them -- once they make up their mind to nail it, not much will deter them. I've had them chase it practically right into my boot to grab it. One of my best fishing moments last fall happened when I ran one through a turbulent pool midway up a stairstep waterfall on the upper Lamoille (VT). I ran the bugger right over the lip and into the next pool down; the 14" wild rainbow followed it right over the falls and grabbed it in the next pool.

yes. that's the only fly I use. been using em since the 70's but I also used a lot of other flys.
getting ready for the pink's here in the pacific NW, something like over 6 million coming in. tying up some different looking pink wollys for em. slender, long tails. this yr will be a hoot on pinks.

    Wooly Bugger

sung to the tune "Wooly Bully" by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs....

    Uno, dos,
    one, two, tres, quatro.

Matty told Hatty about a thing she saw.
Had a lot of marabou and a wooly draw.
    Wooly Bugger, Wooly Bugger.
Wooly Bugger, Wooly Bugger, Wooly Bugger.

Hatty told Matty: "Let's don't take no chance.
Throw a big olí bugger, make the brown trout dance."
    Wooly Bugger, Wooly Bugger.
Wooly Bugger, Wooly Bugger, Wooly Bugger.

Matty told Hatty: "That's the thing to do.
Get you someone really throw a bugger with you."
    Wooly Bugger, Wooly Bugger.
Wooly Bugger, Wooly Bugger, Wooly Bugger.

I'm more than happy to do a Q&A but I don't understand your original question.

    Yes.

Even works for little wild ones.

I fish them sometimes -- they work pretty well.

More than woolly buggers though, I fish gartside sparrows -- which to me, probably imitate some of the same food items. I find the sparrow more effective on warm water species than woolly buggers.

yep, the warmer the water the less ya catch. I'll have to tie up some of those sparows and see how they work in warmer water. thanks

oooh, that poor little fish, hope it was ok when ya put it back in the water. I only keep 14" or over on lake cuts and trout.
