Default 9' or 10'

Why use a 9' over a 10' or vice versa for Steelhead and Salmon? 8 wt, Michigan and Wisconsin rivers. New guy here!

10's are advantageous for mending control and ability to extend out over currents.

If you got the room for the extra foot you should probably utilize it... There's really no disadvantages to having a 10' rod... And no shortage of advantages... Longer reach for nagging currents... Easier/longer mending... Increased distance... Longer roll casts...
