I hate ice!!!

I went to the vermilion today and met up with a guy from my forum to fish for steel. lets just say we had to bust through ice try to fish... I can't believe our river is iced up already! grrrrrr. flytyer managed one sucker fish tho on a small shrimp pattern

Hi George,

A technique that has worked for me is use a fairly thin heavy line like the Cortland sink tips and cast the tip out over the ice. After it sinks for a second a good sharp tug will cut through a lot of the softer ice. Can't say it's great for the line, but it gets through a lot of ice.

this was some pretty thick ice. had to stomp it hard to break it up. I was using a wf line. the vermilion is very shallow so thats what we usually use
