Caught this 22" Rainbow on the Blue river in Colorado. The fishing has been excellent lately with the lower flows.

Catch and release fishing on a beautiful evening in an amazing river.

This 19" rainbow trout hit a Copper John and took off! I ran downstream 75 yards as he took me into my backing. First time I've really had to palm drag the reel. I finally reeled him in to the lip of my net when POW he took off again!.ZIiiiNG. I let him go. Another 75 yard chase, and I reeled him in again, to a quiet bank, and finally got the net under him.

I had fallen at some point and cold river water soaked my jeans under the waders, I was shaking from adrenaline, and the fish in my net was angry. The sun was setting and the dark clouds had just passed, the river was lit up with gold light. I had just watched the silhouette of this trout as it leapt from the water several times in the sunset. Absolutely the best outdoor experience ever.

( The Copper John came out easy and I discovered another lure that had snagged his fin from a previous encounter and removed that as well. It took some time to revive him and get him going again. We were both exhausted. But he is fine

Looking at all these fantastic pictures of awesome fish and rivers out West makes me green with envy!

Somehow I am going to make this happen ! maybe not every year but at least every other year I am going to figure out how and where with what ever time I have left. Went to Colorado skiing and few times , should have just sold the return ticket or traded it for beer in the pub ! That way , I would have had to stay , penny less collage grad. with a fly rod but happy !!

It's been a tough few weeks for the trout in northern & central Vermont. A comparatively dry August was followed by an uncharacteristically warm early September. I don't think most streams were really critical in terms of outright survival, but it was enough to rule out ethical trout fishing for a while. With the school year starting up I don't tend to get out so much this time of year anyway.

The last few nights have been close to freezing, though, and we picked up some rain -- not tons, but enough to freshen things up, so I got out for a couple of chilly hours early this evening. Water in the high 50's. Caught this one under the trestle in the middle of town, and another a couple of inches shorter, and came unbuttoned from one more. Nice to be back out there.
