Caught this guy a couple of weeks ago with an olive BH woolly bugger on Big Elk Lake in the High Uintas.

Not quite summer yet, but getting there. Soon. Those are great looking fish. Where do they come from?

I started out fishing with some folks who extolled browns as smart and tough and rainbows as feisty runners and jumpers, and they disparaged cutts for their alleged, "oh just pls pull me in and get it over with" attitudes.

Over time my own impressions of cutts has evolved radically: They are uncommonly pretty/handsome fish, they eat dries (for those with patience to wait on them), and they don't really just roll over the way folks suggest (at least not always). I find myself sometimes choosing where to fish on the basis that, "there are nice cutts there."

I am not sure i have seen this thread before and i am glad to see it.

These small specimens are high elevation (10,000+ ft) cutties from the Rockies.

I too have heard folks describe cutts as lethargic fighters, but in practice I personally haven't noticed that any more than other species.

We are blessed enough to have some of these "native" fish at high elevation; not only are they beautiful and diverse, but most of their habitat is more difficult to access making for less crowds and amazing adventures.

And thanks for the moral support, but the "season" for these fish doesn't start again until high elevation ice off... Around June. Still a long time to wait!

And apparently you like to keep them; even at mature size.
