Team USA Announces Two Tryouts/Clinics in 2009

The US Youth Fly Fishing Team, Inc. will hold two tryouts in 2009. Professional fly fishing experts George Daniel (Head Coach) Loren Williams (Assistant Coach) Joe Humphreys, Dave Rothrock, and others will be providing first hand instruction in the skill of competitive fly fishing. During both tryouts, Team USA will be selecting anglers to be members of a development team that will be trained and coached to compete in National competitions in North America. Interested youth between the ages of 12 and 18 may attend the tryout/clinic. FIPS Mouche regulations require the competitor to be between 14 and 18.

The first tryout will be held May 8th, 9th and 10th 2009, at the Seig Conference Center of Lock Haven University, Lamar, PA. The May tryout/clinic will be for interested young women and men fly fishers to earn a position on the team that will represent the United States in the FIPS-Mouche World Youth Fly Fishing Championships to be held in the Czech Republic in 2009. The Seig Center is located on the banks of the famous Fishing Creek at Lamar, PA. All applicants will be housed at the Sieg Center with team chaperones. Meals will be provided. Deadline for May applications is April 1, 2009 with a limit of forty competitors. Preference will be given to those 14 and older.

The second tryout will be held August 7th, 8th and 9th, 2009 in Nye, Montana. From this tryout, anglers may be selected to represent the USA in the FIPS-Mouche Youth Fly Fishing World Championships in 2010 scheduled for Ireland. This site is a private lodge located on the Stillwater River. Again, George Daniel, Loren Williams and other competition tested Adult Team USA members will conduct these tryouts. Chaperones will be present. Deadline for August applications is July 1, 2009 with a limit of twenty competitors. Again, preference will be given to those 14 and older.
