Kevlar rope wrap on oars

Any reason I shouldn't use it? Found some on Amazon. Imagine it would last forever.

It will be very harsh on your oar locks. What's wrong with ordinary rope?

Nothing​ wrong with it. Just like new ideas. You're right though. They could be like sandpaper on the oar locks.

Unless it has protection, UV breaks Kevlar down fairly quickly.
I covered mine with leather and made buttons with Turk's Head knots.



The small wraps on the other end are made with whipping twine. I think I bought the leathers from Shaw and Tenney

Yes.
"Kevlar" is also called "Spectra", and they're both gel spun polyethylene. Impervious to UV and darned near every chemical you can expose them to. The best quality stuff is smooth as silk, but the surface can be somewhat slippery so you'll have to have a clever way to keep it where you want it.

If it's the real thing (lots of fake gsp products being sold!) Fred is right. Go for it!
