One more price drop before the rod/reel either heads off to the Big Auction Site, or finds its way back into the rod cabinet. As the rod and reel were purchased for our late youngest daughter just months before her death at age 15-- she lost her battle with leukemia in 2010 --I just haven't got the heart to fish it again. So, I'm selling the combo and putting the money into something the late Laramie firmly believed in-- the tying classes for "my kids." I'll figure out the wader thing via some other way...

Thank you, moucheur2003... Of the four daughters with whom I once shared "stream time," only two remain. Our second oldest, Lauren, was killed by a drunk driver in 2007, and as mentioned, Laramie lost her fight with leukemia in 2010.

Nowadays, the "fishing with Dear Old Dad" duties fall primarily to Jesse, now our youngest daughter, and an all-around great kid. After all, how many girls attending college would drive over four hours just to spend "The Opener" fishing with her Dad?

The only problem I see with it is the fact that she's become a far better caster and fisherman than her father. Still, she lets me tag along...

Thanks again for the kind words, my friend. Much appreciated...

An absolutely beautiful rod and the 3/4 reels are clearly much tougher to find than the 5/6's. The unsanded Orvis rods are magnificent, so very much nicer than the sanded and painted ones. Wish I could purchase it to help out, unfortunately with a 2,3 & 5 already and with things getting tight I just can't.

I'll pass it along though to others though don't wait on a follow up before you do what you need to.

    grtlksmarlin,

You're spot on regarding your observations on the English-made Orvis Battenkill 3/4 reel, and the Orvis Graphite rod as well. Both were among the best ever made by the folks at Orvis, in my humble opinion, which is why they were purchased for my late daughter, Laramie.

But, in the four years since her passing, they languished in the rod cabinet, as Dear Old Dad still has his share of difficulties in handling the loss of not one, but two of his four daughters. And, with one of "my kids"-- Ms Emily --losing her own battle with leukemia at age 15 as well, the similarities have been emotionally tough to navigate. Hence, it's time that the little 4-wt. takes its place in another rod rack, and that the money be used for other things...

Not one of my finer moments, but I believe the move to be the right one...

    Guys,

With all due apologies up front, I'm going to be moving this rod and the reel to a new sales venue or two shortly. It's time, my friends, and perhaps a little overdue. Besides, the 4-wt rods are in higher demand over there, as are the 3/4 Orvis Battenkill reels, especially those of English origins. And, best of all... with the additional funds that the sales might generate, the more I can do to honor my youngest daughter's memory...

Many thanks for giving the gear a look and maybe even a thought...
