    Default Black Cat tube fly

There are some really great classic feather wing streamers that were tied by Carrie Stevens. One of the patterns is the Black Cat. I really liked the way it looked so I decided to give it a go. Just for giggles I tied it on a HMH small diameter, plastic lined aluminum tube. I've never seen a Carrie Stevens pattern done on a tube, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. I also departed from the original pattern where the beard is concerned. It calls for hackle fibers, but I have a neighbor with a half Pekingese, half Chow dog. Don't ask me how that happens, but he's black and has the softest hair which he is shedding in clumps like he's heading for bald. I picked one of them up and said to myself, "Self, that has the nicest movement I have seen. It's as good as Marabou or rabbit and it's long. Ooooo, I'm keeping this!" So the the beard is Pekachow or Chowanese or whatever the heck you call this biological oddity. I also used synthetic tail fibers. They should be hackle as well, but I wanted the extra length to get past the hook for the tube pattern. The head has a red band in it but is hard to see the way the photo came out. I kinda made the head a tad big, but other than that I'm pretty happy with the way it came out.

I wouldn't sweat the head buddy, it looks great from here. The beauty of a fly is realized when we catch a fish. This looks beautiful to me Dan.
