Default hooks for spoons

what do yall use? i usually start with mustad 34007s and bend them into shape, i use the creative feathers template and recipe. i have heard some ppl say they use gamakatsu shiner hooks, seems like theyd be fine except the flat part of the hook near the eye. phishtech says he uses VMC flounder hooks, i honestly dont see how these would work without bending them and i thought he said he didnt bend them. would a live bait hook work well?

Hi Jack,

I have no advice on your question but would offer that since this is predominately a fly fishing forum the answer may not be forthcoming. I have a fair level of knowledge about hooks for anything from a fine wire #20 for a Blue Quill to a good iron for King Salmon but know very little about the proper hook selection for spoons. Do you fly-fish and if so what are you fishing for?

Ard

PS. I just took a look at your other posts and see that you are targeting Reds off the Texas coast. Sooner or later someone will have an answer for you. I am just not familiar with spoon flies..................
