I am learning the CPR every time I go fishing now. Most of my trouts didn't leave the net or smile at the camera, unless they the bad big bully ones.

This is exactly what I, just getting started in the activity, needed. Thank you very much Mike for posting this. 2yrs later it is still helping people out.

Watch that fishing channel on cable for some really bad examples of how NOT to handle fish.

One idiot actually jerked the fish out of the water and netted it in mid air!
You see them dragging the fish along the ground, hands in the gills, bending the jaws backward, etc.

Trout are EXTREMELY sensitive to being caught. I f'ing hate seeing the bait fishermen on the streams up north where I live just casually tossing the trout back in the water. Too many times, I've seen beautiful brook trout floating belly up downstream because some f'ing d*ckw*d piece of s*i* didn't take the time to properly release the fish or held them out of the water for too long.

Sorry for the expletives, this is a subject I take very seriously. It hurts me so much to see these beautiful creatures getting killed because people don't know what they are doing. Sometimes I just wish trout were placed under the endangered species list because too many get needlessly killed. There's also the matter of there being too many anglers and not enough fish. I'm all for teaching the next generation the sport but at the same time, we need to restrict the number of trout anglers in an effort to conserve populations.
