After seeing the post on page one I looked up one of my own.

Days like the one in the picture are why I say to chose a distance then fish it. When the temps hang right around zero all day Ice happens.

That one is my own ice on the guide shot

That's the best advice on keeping ice out of the guides......pick a distance and fish it.
That's a great photo, love that hat, you're definitely styling!

Winter Steelhead, notice my large freshly cleaned guides. One of my digital art photos.

Just be careful when flicking ice out of the tip top. I'm not sure if the cold makes graphite a little brittle or I was just being too aggressive but I snapped a tip once; I reached out and grabbed the tip top with the rod bent a little bit and flicked or pinched with my thumb and SNAP! Lost on inch of my rod.

Ice in the guides means winter steelhead fishing! The colder and nastier the weather, the fewer people on the water :-)

Oil as mentioned or other. Will slow build up. Silicone might work better at slowing. Best , like said not wetting.

Ran across what are called/sold as "ice guides". Netcraft, cataloge 2017. Company sells across the board building supplies. Guides are said to be for ice rods. Wondering how so ? Picture appeared to be small wire guide much like a snake guide. Stronger wire or somekind of material that doesn't ice maybe. Guessing , might be worth checking into.

Like Mr vamtnbiker says, swish your rod down in the water and the warmer water will almost immediately melt the ice off your guides. Continue fishing. Repeat as necessary!
