If that Speed blood knot is strong, then this is just brilliant.

The last time someone here posted that video, I give it a few good tries.
It's not as easy as it looks, but I suppose practice make perfect.

Yeah, I'm here tell you, It is indeed not quite as easy as it looks. He says he's done literally thousands (or was it tens of thousands) of these, so I'm sure he has it down pat, but I found blood knots to be tough no matter how cool the method is. Try sticking a 7X tipped through a little slot with numb fingers on a windy day. Yikes!

Tying a Blood Knot is Easy (if you know this Trick) - How to Tie

Here's another video demonstrating a "speed" blood knot. He uses his thumb to create the space for the line ends to pass through. Possibly, a good back up method if one can't find a toothpick.

The problem is, his first knot is a poor example of a correct blood knot. He should have pointed out the V in the leader tags. A blood knot tied this way will fail. The tag ends, must be perpendicular to the knot.

I form an x with the two sections of line, make five turns with one tag end then hold it through the formed v while making 5 turns with the other tag end. Then pass it through the space in the opposite direction. Finally apply moisture to the knot and pull all 4 sections tight. Inspect and retie if the tag ends are not perfect.

I have tried, both the thumb and toothpick methods and could not tie the knot on the first few attempts. As suggested above, knots look easy to tie when one is practiced at a method.

I'm perfectly happy with the way I tie blood knots and have no trouble getting the leader ends through the space. I could also make it look easy on a video, because I've done it hundreds of times. Practice makes perfect...
