I got these plastic little boxes when I once upon a time ordered some fly rod bass worms. Turns out the boxes work great for putting a few streamers in my pocket without getting into the bigger boxes and incurring the risks that involves out on the water. One box has flies that have never seen the saltwater and the other gets ones that are wet and keeps those out of the general population.

Save your packaging! It might be useful someday.

Video below demonstrates how to tie the Davy knot...the best part at 2:30 mark is how he uses a plunger style hackle pliers to create the knot....am hoping I can get to the point where I can tie this knot with my gloves on

I have also tried making some slinky weights. Some great tutorials on how to DIY. Rather than using a piece of parachute cord with the filler cord removed, etc etc, I tried inserting tungsten shot in a piece of heat shrink tube.

It seals extremely well and seemed to hold well at the end of the tippet in the couple outings I have used it.

The Davy knot is my most used knot, still reasonably easy to tie even with frozen fingers!

I've had the Davy knot fail so I use the double Davy instead. It's never failed. My rule is if I can't untangle in 30 seconds I cut and re-tie. I can have my rig redone in a couple minutes.

I did have issues with knot failure when I first started using the knot. The knot failed for me because I wasn't pulling the tag end straight away on a 90 degree angle from the hook eye before clinching it down. Since then no problems.

Yup! I get mine from my dentist, he gives me a few packs at a time and I'm pretty well stocked with them.

It's a good knot smoke33, as I posted earlier, come as close to a 90 degree angle from the hook eye with the tag end before clinching down. i'll be trying the double Davy as well.
