This video makes blood knots easy peezy... Though I've never found blood knots all that difficult... Which is funny because I can't tie a perfection loop to save my life

Funny, I can tie a perfection loop in under 5 seconds, and a blood knot without tools in under 20 seconds, but I cannot tie a proper double-surgeon's knot given all the time in the world. And the thought of a triple surgeon's knot makes me run crying to my mommy. I decided I had to learn the blood knot after alarmingly regular failure of my tippet at the double-surgeon's knot. Heck, I even knew they were going to fail as soon as I hooked up, they were just that bad. So I haven't used a double-surgeon's knot in a few years.

Kind of funny how each one of us seem to find one knot easy and another very hard. For me, I have never been able to tie the blood knot, but the triple surgeon, double davy, perfection loop all come pretty easy. That toothpick trick sure makes the blood knot a lot easier, at least for me.

Will say that at a club school the perfection knot was demonstrated in a way I've not seen in any of the still or video presentations...very easy.

I love this Blood Knot video, but 'pick purchases really are starting to cut into the "fish/rod/hackle/reel/toys" fund and its "wee" balance. Even so, it's still a great video...

Yeah, I spent so much on my rod, reel and line I can't afford a toothpick!

I would say add sections to leader, and add tippet to leader. If you nymph a lot, a long tag end from one side of the blood knot also gives you a place to tie on a fly on a multi-fly rig.

By the way, one key I have found for tying up a great blood knot is to use floatant to lubricate the knot before tightening. The knot cinches down beautifully and forms perfect little barrels. It makes the knot smaller and smoother, so it doesn't catch in the guides.
