Thread: Line for short stout rods

Default Line for short stout rods

    Hello again,
I seem to only be asking without the giving. I am new to the fly.

I now have a Redington Pretator #8 7'11" which i run a rio outbound 330 grain floating line. This is fantastic for repeted short to medium casts to structure with deer hair divers and bugs.

Has anyone tried using a longer bellied line on these rods and how many line classes over the rod weight seemed to work? I don't expect to be able to hang lots of line in the air, but you never know. Worth a try?

    What are you targeting?
Are you fishing moving water, stillwater, shore, wading, out of a boat?
What's a short to medium cast?
