Thanks for the all the replies . I will most definitely try and keep my first few tightline nymphing outings simple. I agree that simplicity is key, thus creating a firm foundation to build upon. I'm curious to heavy nymphs, from what I understand, heavier on bottom and a lighter up top off a tag is what's the norm? I just watched an interesting vid on YouTube of George Daniels giving a lecture on his techniques and theories on this style of nymphing. He suggested that one could and should use lightly weighted flies and that having too much tension on the leader and "dragging" the flies is different than what he teaches, he described how you can drop a lightly weighted fly in a stream and it will not get carried away, but rather fall straight to the steam bottom right at your feet, and that leading flies and the tippet prevents this from happening when fished. Interesting 3 part vid. I highly recommend! Now I need to get my hands on his book to put it all together .

Finally someone mentioned George Daniels. I saw his presentation and got the book signed. I'd say definitely read it and put some of it to the test. He seems to know what he's doing.

I'm a bit of skeptical old fart in terms of new ideas, but I bought George's book, read it twice, and still reference it regularly. If you want to improve your nymph fishing in a variety of conditions, this is the book to read. He covers a wide vareity of techniques including leaders, rigging, flies, presentation and when to use each. IMO, It's one of the best "how to" fly fishing books to come along in some time. (No, I've never met George).
