Default Line recommendation for 9' 5wt Winston Air

Won a new Air 5wt. Look for best line for the rod.

Lots of good choices out there. The answer depends on how you intend to fish with it most often. If you're looking for a "jack of all trades" style line I'd recommend the Ultimate Trout Taper from SA or the Rio Gold from Rio Products. If you spend the majority of the time nymph fishing with an indicator, but still want versatility, than a bit more aggressive taper and weight like the MPX from SA or Perception from Rio could be in order.

I could go on with other specialty lines, but I'm going to make the assumption given having a wonderful feeling rod like the Winston, that you won't be using it as a specialty streamer rod... correct me if I'm wrong.

Congrats on the Air! It's a great rod.

    Best,

    Jason

Thanks for the suggestions. I have a gold I use for my Scott G 5wt will try it on the Air.

I finished building my 590 air a few weeks ago. I have not had it on the water (which can change preferences), but I am using an Orvis hydros DT 5 (140 grain head weight), and it casts beautifully with that line.
