Default Full Sink Fly Line for Helios 6wt mid flex 7.5

Hi,

I would like to purchase a full sink fly line (type 6 or 7 sink) however I need help with choosing the best possible line for a Helios 6wt mid flex 7.5. I will be mostly using a heave-and-leave method/technique with the full sink line. A heave-and-leave rig consists of a fast sinking fly line with a large diameter floating glo-bug or booby on a 0.5 meter trace. It is then a matter of casting into a likely location along a lake shore and ever so slightly retrieving the line.

Kind regards,
Simon

Hi Simon,
The Rio Deep 7 line was made for that technique. It is a WF7S7 that has a very think diameter. You shouldn't have any issues casting it with your 6 weight.

Hi MP,

Thank-you for your reply and suggestion, it's greatly appreciated.

I was looking at purchasing the Rio Deep 6 WF6S6 however I will go with your suggestion (Rio Deep 7 WF7S7) knowing I should not have a problem casting it with a Helios 6 weight.

Also, could you please help with suggesting the best suitable lines for the below tasks:
floating line for a size 12-16 tungsten weighted nymph and glo-bug rig?
intermediate sinking line for stripping smelt/streamer patterns?

Many thanks,
Simon

Second the Rio VII. Does anyone else make a seven?
As far as floating for me...Sharkskin OR Windcutter II
Intermediate, I have been a Cortland Clear Camo fan for very many years..
I love that flex on the Orvis rods...MY FAVORITE.

Hi Joni,

Thanks for your confirming and intermediated suggestion.

This is my first mid flex from Orvis and it definitely won't be my last, the helios is a wonderful blank.

Joni, have you tried either the Airflo Ridge clear intermediate or Rio AquaLux intermediate, and if so, how does it compare to the Cortland 444 classic clear camo regarding line memory, durability, castability etc?

Many thanks,
Simon
