I’m a trout guy, but there’s a small, supposedly good quality smallmouth stream not far away that I’d like to give a try. I don’t want to spend a bunch of money until I know if chasing smallies is for me, so I’m gonna start with a 6 wt TFO BVK that I bought as a trout streamer rod. Is it necessary to buy a bass-specific fly line, or can a regular WF-6-F trout taper turn over most of what I’ll be throwing in a smaller stream for smallmouth? In the alternative, what about a WF-7-F trout taper?
Appreciate the advice.
