Default best weight and line for a bamboo rod

i have an orvis battenkill 8' 6wt hdg impregnated rod and i would like to know what approximatedly is the best weight and line for this rod, mostly small river and stream fishing. i cann't afford real silk, so was thinking cortland sylk from 4wt to 6wt wf or dt. it is 4 1/8 oz and supposed to be a slow action rod made in 1976. thanks

I would say a Sylk in a 6wt, or maybe a 5wt. For small stream usage, I'd likely pick the DT, for roll-castability.

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.

I'd stay away from Sylk and give Rio Selective Trout II a try.
