There are proportions in nature that we try to imitate as fly tyers. Is it useful and a fish catcher? Yes. Is it a good first attempt? Yes. Keep at it and maintain proper proportion of the thorax and abdomen.

Are my proportions great always? Heck no. But I try to get better with every fly. They say it takes 100x of a pattern to master it. 99 to go.

Good luck!

Yes sir! We as flytyers often get hung up on proportions. There is certainly nothing wrong with that! Most times I tend to think the fish are less critical than we are of our ties. There are times, however, that fish can become ultra selective when proportions of a particular species of insect can be critical. Very nice tie. Keep up the good work!
