Bernie's Bleeder

Bernie's Bleeder |

Type of fly | American Shad fly
Originator of pattern if known |
Tied and Submitted by | MoscaPescador
Level of tying experience needed to tie this pattern |Beginner, a fairly simple pattern using basic tying skills
Materials listed in order of tie in:|
Hook | Standard shank size 6-8 Targus 3908T here
Thread | White Danville's Flat Waxed Nylon
Eyes | Medium beadchain, gold or silver
Tail | Marabou, fluorescent pink here
Body | Working thread
Head | Thread
Special tying notes | Coat the entire body with head cement for durability. Beadchain eye can be replaced with a dumbbell eye for weight. It gets its name from the fluroescent pink marabou bleeding through the white thread. Last year I tied some up for the shop. It became the hot fly. This season, I will be tying lots of them. At least they only take about 1.5 minutes to tie.
Target species | American Shad
Fishing notes | I fish this on the swing with a sink tip or shooting head line.
