Materials listed in order of tie in:
Hook Dry fly 14-18
Thread Black 8/0
Tail None
Hackle Grouse, brown dyed partridge or mottled brown hen
Underbody Whatever you’d like the body to reflect. Chartreuse flat waxed nylon here.
Abdomen Pearl Krystal Flash wrapped up shank, the color of thread underneath the Krystal flash will “glow” through
Thorax Hare’s ear dubbing
Head Thread
Special tying notes Tie in hackle with tip extending over eye of hook. Form thread underbody, tie in Krystal Flash and wrap down and up body, Tie off Krystal flash and trim excess, dub thiorax. Wrap hackle 2 turns. Form head.
Target species Trout
Fishing notes Wet fly swing, and fish as an emerger. A good prospecting fly in and below riffles on streams with lots of caddis. It is also especially good for the Grannom caddis hatch (Brachycentrus) in April – early June in the East.
