Without question, an absolutely spectacular setup you've got there shotgun! Once again, congratulations on another amazing purchase. Sweetandsalt's suggestion to discuss the optimal line pairing comes as no surprise to me and certainly a very wise proposition. I too will be curious as to what Kerry has to say.

That Saracione is amazing. Those are true heirloom quality reels. That and the Hardy Perfect definitely have my eye. Someday...maybe.

In the meantime, let there be more reel porn...

My first setup. Its a cabelas prestige reel. Ive never fished with a fly rod before but tge reel feels smooth as butter.

Hey 95chevy my first rod was a Cabelas PT 5 wt. Only rod I've ever caught a smallmouth and a pumpkinseed.

Basic black. Of all the reels I have owned, this one is my favorite by a long shot. Well, that's until I get a Pewter 9/10N for my 10wt later this summer.

    Grouch,

Nice Abel. They look fantastic in any color, and you can't go wrong with black. There's not a single piece of plastic on them, and they will outlast us for sure. Enjoy.

    Cheers,

    Chased,

They make me cry a little when I pay the bill, but only for a second or two. They are truly works of art, and I really enjoy them.

I use my Super 8's a lot in the surf, and every now and then I'll hook a fish that heads out for the Channel Islands like a freight train. Hearing an Abel sing, and knowing the cork drag will eventually wear out the fish is a great feeling.

The salt has absolutely zero effect on these reels. When I get home, I set the reel in a bucket of clean water, take it apart, and make sure it's clean and lubed for the next outing.

I found this one in the display case at a local fly shop. It was brand new in the box, but I think it had been in their inventory for a while. I don't know when they stopped making this in England, but I would venture to guess it has been a while. It was still priced at $110. I had to bring it home. I haven't used it yet, but I plan to put it to work soon.

Great post Von Behr. You got one heckuva deal on that Orvis BBS IV, congratulations! If memory serves me, it was somewhere between 2001-2004 where they shifted production overseas. For some reason 2003 comes to mind, but I'm sure it was the early 2000's.

That's a great addition to your amazing collection of reels.

    Jaybo,

Thanks. I was surprised when I examined it closely. It had been in the glass display case for a long time at the shop I frequently go to. When I realized what it was, and saw it was still marked based on a price from long ago, I figured I had better grab it.

The guy at the shop and I talked about it, and he had said they hadn't been made in England for a while. He said there was no reason to change the asking price regardless of its origin. It was a very good deal.
