Thread: Teton Tioga Magnum Reel

  1. Default Teton Tioga Magnum Reel

I recently purchased a Teton Tioga Magnum Reel #8 for an 8wt. rod based on the shops recommendation. Anybody have experience with the reel? Would love to hear your feedback.

I own a TIOGA 8LA reel and would like a copy of the specifications and maintenance for it. Please let me know where I can get this information.

I own a Tioga 10LA paired with my 9wt fly rod. I've owned it for 5-6 years now, and I rarely use it (simply because my 9wt doesn't get used a whole lot).

The LA spools were sort of pointless on these models as they only served to reduce the amount of backing capacity. The drag seems very capable. The only thing I have against the reel is the amount of back-play before the pawl engages the drag.

Can someone remind me the difference between the standard/large arbor reels and Magnum series?

I have a Tioga 12wt magnum, and a 12wt RA too. The magnum spool is about 1/4 inch wider than the regular/large. The LA/RA spools are interchangable on the standard frame. The magnums are not, and only fit the magnum frame. The center of the spool on the magnum is very similar in diameter to a Large Arbor.
