  1. Default Vintage Reel info wanted

I came across this older looking Fly reel. It has no handle on it like a standard type reel but I am not really familiar with fly fishing thats my sons hobby/obsession but he's in Afghanistan so I cant ask him. I was wondering if anyone can give me any info on a "Paradise" Model V-1335 reel? I cant find anything about it doing the standard internet searches. I cant figure out how to post pics if someone can tell me. Thanks in advance,
    Joe
    PS: great site

Thanks. Here are a couple of pics of it. Not brand new but still cool looking. Just wondering what its worth, when it was made stuff like that. Not going to sell it probablly give it to my son when he gets home in Feb. Just curious.
    Thanks
    Joe

That sure looks like an old Perrine Automatic, could be a copy if it doesn't have the Perrine name on it. I've never seen a Paradise reel but then that does not mean they aren't around. Value, probably only to the owner or as a conversation piece in the den. Age, I'll guess circa 1960 - 1967 by design and condition, could be older but that's my guess. We have a member here, Rip Tide who will know the actual answer.

I have my grandfather's reel that looks very similar except that it was green and not black. He had his since the 1950's. I will try and get a photo or two posted.

Except for the handicapped, here's not a lot of call for the automatic reels anymore and virtually no collectors market.
Recently on proxybid a Paradise V-1335 went for $9

It looks to me like it's a rebranded Shakespeare OK..... but that's just a guess
Older than a '60's vintage anyway, more like late 40s, early 50s

Thanks guys. Heres what I was told by someone that collects reels on a major level:

Hi Joe, that would be a reel sold by Western Auto Supply, probably postwar late 1940's to 1950's, reel would have been made by Ocean City, Shakespeare, or Bronson, not a big $ grabber, there are people that collect Western Auto reels!

I think it's a pretty cool looking reel. I've never seen one without the conventional style handle.

I'm not an expert, but as far as I know the Western Auto reels were called "Revelation" Automatics and had "Western Auto Supply Company" engraved on the front plate
