Thread: Click and Pawl Reels

  1. Default Click and Pawl Reels

    Hello
I am looking for options for a 4wt 9ft Sage One
I have a Reddingtont Drift on a 3wt that I have and love the sound.

What are other reels of this type out there that would make a good companion to the Sage?

    Thanks

    SB

    Orvis CFO III

Produced in England to the same specifications and using the same tooling as the original CFO, these Limited-Edition classic CFO fly reels are magnificent pieces of fly-fishing history sure to be future heirlooms. First offered in the Orvis catalog in 1972, the CFO quickly became an iconic reel in the fly-fishing community, thanks to its unrivaled sound and unique, timeless appearance. Manufactured in England for the next two decades, the Hardy-made CFOs developed a devoted following over the years that continues to this day. As a respectful nod to the past, a limited, individually numbered supply of these spring-and-pawl reels will be made. Each is a replica of the riveted 1972 model with subtle updates such as a gray anodized finish. This classic fly reel comes in a soft leather reel case and commemorative box. Weighs 3.3 oz.

I do love my CFO's which click (check) due to having spring loaded pawls; no ONE is a candidate for low performance reels, however. Where and how will you be fishing your new #4 ONE?

I use either a Lamson LP1 or an Abel TR-1 on my Sage ONE 4 wt.

Both balance the 8' 6" version perfectly.

The other one I've used recently is the Sage 2030, but it's slightly heavy.
Today is always the first day of the rest of your life.
    Use it wisely.

I am fishing Abel Creeks in my Z-Axis and ZXL rods. The Creek 2 large arbor models should be fine.

I am very pleased with my Hardy cc3000 on my 3 & 4 wt. rods.
A smooth running work of art.
Hardly any drag, but at those weights that's fine.

the hardy ultralight cc reels would be a great choice.
i have a 3000 and it is indeed a fine reel.
very smooth click and the machining is very tight

and imo, good looking reels as well.

Thanks for the info- much appreciated.

This will be my go to rod for the creeks and rivers around me. Smallmouth, chubs, panfish and carp mostly with some trout as I am only 2.5 hrs from stifles region in wi.
I will be by local orvis tommarow and will check out the CFO III
I am also going to check out the Hardy and the Abel.
