Default Need some reviews tfo bvk or tfo large larbor

Been hearing bad things about the tfo bvk, the drag is hard to use? I really like the large arbor reels on tfo but they only have a few sizes and I can't tell which one is for a 5 wt? Any thought

The 'Large Arbor Reel' is for 8-10wt if I am reading the specs correctly. the 'Prism Cast' model TFR P CLA 5/6 would work on a 5wt, the 'HSR' model TFR HSR 1 would also be for a 5wt. I have nothing to offer for a review, I've never used a TFO reel. Sounds like you are dead set on getting a TFO reel, Have you considered any others at all? Allen makes a great reel, either the trout 2 or the Kraken. Ross makes a great reel, many other options out there. Did you have a budget in mind or........?

Heard lots of not-so-good things about the bvk reels, almost bought one to match my BVK rod but my buddies talked me out of it, said that while they're very light, they aren't very sturdy... Bent frames and such from very minor falls

The large arbor reels in 375 is too big for 5wt? I have no clue if someone could clarify before I buy it

BVK reels are very nice and light but the drag is pretty light on.

The TFO Large Arbor reel is sturdy and well designed but geared to the larger line sizes. It is a draw-bar reel with a carbon disc and is good for the salt but there are better choices for your 5-weight BVK(?). Take a look at the Hardy Ultralite DD, it is the reel that "inspired" the BVK reel.

I don't know how to clarify it any better than the TFO large arbor 375 is for the 8-10 wt rods. Says so right on the website. If you look at the capacity it says
250 yards/20lb./WF8F
The WF8F is the line it will best hold, Weight Forward 8wt Floating
The 250 yards/20lb is the backing capacity
You need to look for a reel that says WF5F. If you are going to drop $350 on a reel, get the proper size. I recommend the Ross Evolution LT. The model 2 is for 4/5/6 wt and is $299 and is a great reel.
Or the Lamson Guru G2 is a 5/6 wt and is $209.
Found those on Cabelas.com.

What rod is it going on??

I would pass- like others have recommended....you have batter options.

Hardy and Allen are both great choices you will never regret!
