Default New (2017) Orvis Mirage USA made

This looks interesting...they have thenrights to the old Charlton series through the acquisition of SA. I wonder if they have used some of that tech...330degree to full drag. Type III anodised. Will be very interested to see one.

See one? Yes I'd like to 'see one' ... but pay that kind of $$$$? Doubt I'll be ordering one up.

Wow, $649 for the new Mirage reel, guess I will just keep using my old Mirage that I bought from a forum member that was virtually new.

Also noted this: "Orvis will also be launching their own branded aluminum snips for $79, and pliers for $189". I'll be looking forward to the new Orvis version of the Abel snip thread.........I can't wait.

It'll be a cold day in hell when I spend that kind of cash on a reel.

And, from the same news bit about the new good looking Mirage, this:

"Orvis will also be launching their own branded aluminum snips for $79, and pliers for $189."

Some of the best reels I've ever used are the old Phlug. Med's; things are simple, time tested, and only one I ever 'broke' was via my car tire rolling over the thing.

Don't spoil the surprise Larry. We are saving those threads for winter. I do wonder who will make the first $100 nippers

Interesting response's. Orvis have faced criticism (as have other reel manufactures) for not making their reels in the US.
Now they do they face criticism for the cost of manufacturing in the US.
But it seems (though I might be wrong) that Abel, Tibor, Hatch etc can price their reels (and accessories) to reflect the cost of home manufacturing and that is accepted.
Abel Super 8 is $775 (list); pilers $240
    Tibor Everglades $640
    Hatch 7 plus $600
    I guess they can't win.

Well, I'd buy none of those reels either. I can find lesser priced reels that suit my needs just fine. Of course I'm only fishing for trout, bass and pike. I don't need a reel that would stop a marlin or survive being run over by a tank.
